10 Uncommon Packing Tips That Will Make Moving a Breeze
When you’re ready to move into your new home in Ranchers’ Rise, packing is going to be a priority!
You’ve probably heard some of these moving tips before:
- Pack an overnight bag with essentials
- Put heavier items on the bottom of boxes
- Label each box with its destination in your new home
These are great tips, and you should definitely follow them as they’re tried and true to the point of common knowledge, but there are a lot more great tips out there that can make your move even easier.
Here are 10 uncommon packing tips that will make moving a breeze.
1.Wrap stemware in socks
Use what you already have by wrapping glasses and stemware in socks. Plus, you’ll save yourself the hassle of having to pack your socks in a separate box.
2. Use towels as packaging material
Need to pack frames and other items that you don’t want to break? Use towels! You can also use T-shirts and sheets. Pillows and blankets can even be used as padding!
3. Use Styrofoam plates to pack dishes
Packing dishes isn’t any fun, but it’s a lot easier if you use Styrofoam plates to layer your dishes on top of one another.
4. Use your luggage for heavy items
Put that easy-to-carry luggage to good use by filling it with heavy items, like books. It’ll save you the backbreaking labor of lifting boxes.
5. Use grocery bags, garbage bags, and space saving bag
When you think about moving, boxes come to mind, but don’t be afraid to use bags too! Use grocery bags for small items, garbage bags to pack clothes that are still on hangers, and space saving bags for seasonal items that take up a lot of space.
6. Take pictures before you pack
Wondering how you had the knickknacks and picture frames arranged in your living room? Make sure you take a picture before you start packing!
7. Label boxes on the side
Labeling boxes is a common piece of advice, but where you label the box matters. Make sure you label boxes on the side so you can see the label even when they are stacked.
8. Clean items before packing them
Things like picture frames can get pretty dirty. Make unpacking at your new home easier and more fun by cleaning everything before packing it away in a box.
9. Some things shouldn’t go in a box
Boxes make moving easier, but that doesn’t mean everything should go in a box. Expensive jewelry, family heirlooms, and antiques should be moved by hand.
10. Wait until you’re done before setting up the TV
Moving is hard work. Don’t sabotage yourself by getting into your new home and setting up the TV right away. It’ll only encourage you to relax before you’re done!
