Hey everyone! Mickey’s here again to help you get to know Okotoks more. Today, he’ll be showing you some of the things you can do on a day trip around the town of Okotoks!
He’ll go easy on you and start with one activity that anyone can do in town—shopping. Okotoks has numerous shopping areas. There’s Olde Towne Okotoks where you’ll find Elizabeth, Elma, McRae and North Railway Streets.
If you’re looking for unique gift items, look for the Emporium of Impossible Things at North Railway. They sell vintage, upcycled and artisan items that will surely make for a one-of-a-kind present. Austen Jewellers is also in that area. There you can find beautiful pieces of jewelry that are perfect for special occasions. There are a lot more stores at Olde Towne Okotoks so be sure to check out all those streets!
Are you up for a historical tour of the town? Go on a free Okotoks Cemetery Tour with Karen Peters of the Okotoks and District Historical Society. There you will learn the stories of the Okotoks pioneers, the challenges they faced as they were settling down and the hardships of their early years in the town. The guided walk lasts around an hour to an hour and a half.
Another tour you can join is the Heritage Walking Tour, which takes participants on a journey of historic downtown. During the tour, you will learn about the history of the buildings at downtown core as well as the interesting individuals who lived and worked there.
If you’d like to join any of these two tours, please call 403-938-8969 for the schedules.
Aside from shopping and tours, Okotoks offers excursions that will bring you closer to nature. Would you like to go on a picnic at the largest glacial erratic in North America? Head over to Big Rock, which is just 7 km from town.

At Ranchers’ Rise, homeowners can enjoy the magnificent view of nature as well as have access to big city amenities within town.
