Tired of life in a bustling city, many Canadians are eager to move to a peaceful little town where the beauty of nature is just within the vicinity of their neighbourhood. For some people however, moving to another town could also be a way out of having to pay more taxes. Take, for instance, Calgary’s housing problem last year as discussed in Michael Platt’s column for the Calgary Sun:
All that Calgary has to fence it in is land, and three booming bedroom communities who’d love the new citizens.
With Airdrie, Okotoks and Cochrane abuzz with construction, and single-family homes popping up by the hundreds, any increase in price in the big city is going to make that 10 or 15 minute drive out of town seem shorter and shorter.
It comes as a shock to some on council, but some people want a yard, a garage and a quiet street for their kids — and if Calgary fails to provide, there are others who will.
“We’d welcome anybody who’d like to move here,” said incumbent Okotoks Mayor Bill Robertson.
“If you have a young family, you need to move to Okotoks. We have great schools, a young population and lots of nice homes.”
With problems concerning affordable houses in Calgary, it’s no surprise that several prefer a more cost-effective suburban lifestyle, specifically in towns like Okotoks. As the number of people searching for a place in suburban communities increase, leading Okotoks home builders are becoming busier than ever. Now, the question is: Is Okotoks a nice place to live in?
Located only a few kilometers south of Calgary’s city limits, Okotoks is a town of only about 25,000 people. With that population figure, the town is an ideal place for residents who wish to be more involved with the community. Okotoks is not one of those sleepy little towns as there are plenty of recreational, shopping, and wellness centres to choose from, not to mention fine restaurants to dine in and three local golf courses among others.
Okotoks is also a very environmentally conscious community, and so it always strives in keeping the town clean and green. There are quality schools for children as well as parks, fields and more natural wonders. For important happenings in Okotoks, there is the local newspaper—the Western Wheel. Finally, you can always fill your craving for culture in Okotoks’ art gallery, theatre, museum, and public library.
Armed with experience and skill, keep in mind that there are reliable home builders in Calgary and Okotoks that could help you settle down in the promising little town. In Okotoks, everyone can be a part of the community.
