Residents of The Town of Okotoks have known for some time that the area is the perfect place to call home. But thanks to a recent award, others are starting to realize it as well. The town has received the 2015 Southwest Alberta Service and Tourism award for Municipality of the Year, an honor that is well deserved.
The award is presented by the Chinook County Tourist Association as was given at an October 7 ceremony held in Lethbridge. The principle of the award focuses on honoring a municipality that works together to help promote and enhance tourism levels in the region of southwest Alberta.
This particular award is actually a part of the Southwest Alberta Service and Tourism Awards, which include 19 different categories and with a total of more than 200 nominations. The awards have helped recognize those working to build tourism levels, and in doing so have inspired municipalities and organizations to take steps to increase and promote tourism. The Town of Okotoks has helped do just this by promoting the region as a destination that can’t be missed and with numerous marketing initiatives that have helped gain attention for the region.
The award was accepted by Mayor Bill Robertson, who gave credit to the Economic Development Team for their numerous efforts in improving the town and the region as a whole. Residents are likely honored, but not surprised – The Town of Okotoks offers a tremendous range of activities, natural beauty, and wonderful homes that help it stand out as a perfect choice for visiting and for settling down in.
This latest award is only one more recognition that highlights what a remarkable and special place the Town of Okotoks is and the entire Southwest Alberta region in general. If you’ve never experienced it for yourself, paying a visit is well worth doing and could surprise you.
